Hey. Well I have to say i have owned sucessfully for a year four koi two that were 6 inches and two that were 8 inches. They livedi in a 10 gallon tank for a year. Then I was able to get a 55 gallon tank and they are in it now. They are fine. If you put them in a 10 gallon you must keep up with water quality and water changes, plus get an aerator that makes bubbles that is what really helped mine in the 10 gallon the extra oxygen. Koi are known to grow to the size of about a foot but that takes them about 3 years to do that, so in 3 years you will need a bigger tank. However, about the betta. NO! I put a betta in my tank and the koi ATE it. They ate it. You must have fish in the tank that are at least 3 or more inches bigger than your kois mouth or they will eat it. hope this helps, enjoy your fish.

Do some homework on bettas! they are Siamese fighting fish and are extremely aggressive, yes they are a very hardy fish so they live o. Almost any climate/habitat but CAN NOT be housed with any other fish regardless, even whilst breeding Betta fish you can only leave the male and female together for a limited, very well supervised , time. Attempting to house any other fish will result in the death of one, or both of them.

@bobosthenewdude, I used a 4' x 8' 3/4" plywood, you could go thinner since basically all it is used for was makeing the pond square.....
